Why parent coaching

When the parenting playbook stops fitting.

Parenting can be challenging, especially when dealing with behavioral issues, family conflicts, or navigating your child's emotional needs. My Park City parent coaching practice provides you with practical, research-backed strategies tailored to your family's unique situation.

Whether you're dealing with tantrums, defiance, anxiety, or simply want to strengthen your relationship with your child, parent coaching helps you develop confidence and skills for effective, compassionate parenting. Available in-person and via telehealth.

Parents often come to me when…

Common starting points.

Tantrums & meltdowns

The mornings, the transitions, the public ones — practical ways to lower the volume without sacrificing limits.

Defiance & pushback

What's underneath the “no,” and how to respond without escalating into a power struggle.

Hard conversations

Divorce, loss, neuro-divergence, big feelings — how to talk about hard things, in plain words.

Reconnection

When the relationship's gone a little flat. Small, daily moves that rebuild closeness without a big production.

What you get

Parent Coaching services include:

01

Behavioral management strategies

Concrete behavior plans, reinforcement, follow-through — the things that turn intentions into habits.

02

Communication skills development

Listening, validating, asking — and the few well-placed phrases that change how conversations land.

03

Family systems approach

Looking at the whole picture: siblings, co-parents, schedules, school — not just the loudest child.

04

Positive discipline techniques

Limit-setting that holds without escalating. Repair conversations that actually repair.

05

Emotional regulation support

Tools for your kid — and for you, on the days the household needs the adults to go first.

How sessions go

Just you, just me, just the work.

The structure

Most families start weekly for 4–8 sessions, then taper to biweekly or as-needed check-ins. Sessions are 50 minutes, in-person at the Pinebrook office or secure telehealth.

Between sessions, I'll often suggest one small experiment — never homework that piles up. We'll review what worked and what didn't, and keep iterating.

Both parents welcome. Many families find it most useful when both caregivers attend, especially when you're not on the same page yet.

Common questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What is parent coaching and how does it help?
Parent coaching is a focused, skills-based collaboration between you and a clinician. Together we identify the specific challenges you're facing, design strategies that fit your family, and refine them week-to-week. The goal isn't to fix your child — it's to give you a clearer playbook for the moments that have been hardest.
Do I need to bring my child to parent coaching sessions?
No — parent coaching is typically just the parent(s). If individual therapy for your child is also a fit, we can pair the two, but they're separate engagements with different goals.
How is this different from child or teen therapy?
Parent coaching focuses on the adults and the system around the child. Child therapy and teen therapy work directly with the child. Many families do both at the same time.
Do you take insurance for parent coaching?
Insurance coverage for parent coaching varies — many plans don't cover it as a stand-alone service. We'll check during the consult. See full insurance & fees →
