Is this a fit?

Parents often come to me when...

Common reasons families reach out

  • Anxiety, worry, or trouble sleeping
  • Big emotions and frequent meltdowns
  • School avoidance or social struggles
  • Big life changes — divorce, loss, a move
  • Trouble with friendships or self-esteem
  • ADHD-related challenges at home or school

I may not be the right fit when...

  • A child needs immediate crisis or inpatient care
  • A specific medication question requires a psychiatrist
  • The family is outside UT, CA, WA, or NH for telehealth

If we're not the right fit, I'll point you to someone who is — that's part of the free consult.

How child therapy works here

What a course of therapy looks like.

  1. The free 15-minute consult

We meet over video to talk through what's happening and decide together if we're a good fit. No charge, no commitment.

  2. First two sessions — intake

I meet with parents first, then meet your child. We build a calm, playful space and a clear plan together.

  3. Weekly therapy + parent check-ins

Kids meet weekly. Parents check in regularly so the tools we build in session work at home, too.

  4. Tapering to maintenance

As things settle, sessions shift to biweekly, then monthly. We end together — never abruptly.

Approaches I use

Evidence-based, kid-appropriate.

1 Play therapy

Play is how kids tell us what's going on.

Sand tray, puppets, art, and games let children process feelings they don't yet have words for — and learn coping tools that stick.

2 Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

Naming the thought-feeling-action loop.

Age-appropriate CBT helps kids spot anxious thinking patterns and practice new responses — at school, at home, and in friendships.

3 Parent-included approach

Parents are the secret to lasting change.

We loop you in regularly so what we build together in session transfers home — without burdening you with a second job.

4 Trauma-informed care

For kids who have been through hard things.

Adapted EMDR & trauma-focused techniques meet kids where they are, without pushing them toward what overwhelms them.

What to expect

A warm, calm, kid-built space.

My Pinebrook office was designed with kids in mind — soft lighting, sand tray, art supplies, comfortable seating, and plenty of fidgets. Sessions are 50 minutes. I check in with parents at the start and end of each session, with longer parent meetings every 4–6 weeks.

Telehealth for kids works for many — especially for older kids or those who already feel comfortable on video. We'll talk about what fits your child during the consult.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

How long does therapy usually take?
It depends on what we're working on — most families see meaningful change in 8–16 sessions, then taper.
Do I sit in on my child's sessions?
Sometimes, especially with younger kids. We'll find the right rhythm together.
What if my child doesn't want to come?
Very common. The first few sessions are about meeting your child where they are. Play comes first; "therapy" feels much less scary in the room than it sounds at home.
Do you take insurance?
Yes — in-network with Aetna, Cigna, and Regence BCBS through Headway. See full insurance & fees →
